Chelsea Logistics Holdings Corp. businessman, Dennis Uy is currently planning to negotiate with the Department of Transportation the details of its plan to modernize the Davao International Airport.
It already secured the clearance from the National Economic and Development Authority -Investment Coordination Committee (NEDA-ICC).
According to the Phil Star, the approval comes after the granting of the original proponent status to the project back in October 2018.
It also follows all the endorsements that the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Davao City Council, and Davao City Development Council made in 2019.
Chelsea president and CEO Chryss Alfonsus Damuy released a statement thanking NEDA for granting it a clearance before 2019 ends.
The president stated that this is a Christmas gift not just for the company but also for all the Filipinos.
The modernization of the airport will benefit the wider population, after all.
Davao International Airport Modernization Details to Be Negotiated Soon
Damuy added that the company’s next step is to negotiate with DOT all the relevant terms of the project within the parameters set by the NEDA-ICC.
Once the negotiations are all set, Chelsea is planning to secure NEDA board approval, chaired by the President Duterter himself.
After that, the company plans to undergo a Swiss challenge, as the BOT law stipulated.
With the modernization of the Davao International Airport, economic growth can take place as economic trade and tourism activities receive a boost.
Under the proposal, most of the reconfiguration and expansion will take place at the terminal building of the airport.
Facilities, Systems to Be Overhauled
A parallel taxiway is also going to be under construction.
Improvements will take place on both the airside and landslide facilities.
There are also plans to install modern IT systems.
If done right, these upgrades can enhance the overall airport experience of the travelers soon.
The Davao International Airport plays an important role in the city, the region, and the country.
It is the third-largest airport in the Philippines and acts as the main gateway to Mindanao.
Uy’s Udenna Infrastructure Corp. also made some unsolicited proposals to engage in the modernization of other airports in the country.
Specifically, it made proposals to expand, augment, operate, and maintain the Bacolod-Silay Airport and the Busuanga Airport in Palawan.
