Metro Retail Stores Group, Inc. was incorporated and registered with SEC on August 28, 2003. The initial company name was Valueshop Market Market, Inc.
The company primarily engaged in the buying, selling, and trade of goods, wares, and merchandise of every kind. Generally, it carries the operations of a supermarket, hypermarket, and department store. It changed its name to its current one on July 3, 2014.
Currently, the company has 11 stores in Luzon to bring a total of 50 in the entire country.
Market Cap: PHP 9.47 billion
Sector: Services
Subsector: Retail
Earnings Highlights:
- Revenues rose by 1.74 percent to PHP 35.45 billion in 2017 versus PHP 34.85 billion in 2016
- The company booked a net income after tax of PHP 977 million in 2017
MRSGI confirmed the news from Manila Standard stating that Metro Retail Stores Group Inc. aims for a possible acquisition of two or three regional chains. This plan will aid the company in doubling its gross floor area way ahead of its 2020 target.
Chief Strategist Jonathan Juan Moreno stated that they are “cooking” mergers at the moment. If successful, the company will meet its target before 2020.
He further added that the acquisitions are for regional malls. MRSGI is also looking for joint ventures to expand its product offerings such as quick-service restaurants, hardware, and specialty retail stores.
The company clarified, though, that these talks are still in the early stages and nothing is final.
For the first quarter of 2018, net sales reached PHP 6.97 billion. This figure is 12 percent, which is lower than the PHP 7.92 billion recorded in the same period in 2017.
The drop was mainly attributable to a fire accident that led to a closure of a supermarket and department store. Another reason is the rationalization of sales to resellers which were not profitable.
Nonetheless, MRSGI was still able to earn a rental income of PHP 60.50 million. However, this figure is lower by 20 percent compared to the PHP 76.8 million recorded in 2017.
As a result, the company only saw a net income of PHP 90.20 million, 5.90 percent lower versus the recorded PHP 95.90 million in 2017.
MRSGI appears to have started an uptrend after it broke above the 15 EMA and 20 SMA, which now assume support. The 50 SMA, however, is still acting as resistance for the stock.
We already see some good volume on the green candles. MACD is bullish. RSI is also bullish but is far from being at overbought levels.
Support is estimated at 2.63 followed by 2.55. Resistance is expected at 2.82 followed by 2.94.
