By presenting your SMAC (SM Advantage Card) during a routine transaction at an average SM checkout, you contribute to the support of a family in need during the previous holiday season.
SM’s involvement in the Hapag Movement, a program that addresses involuntary hunger in the Philippines in partnership with Globe, facilitates this assistance.
To mark the season of giving last year, SMAC, the loyalty program of SM Retail Inc., collaboratively worked with the Hapag Movement to bridge the food gap in the country.
The support of SMAC members resulted in donations amounting to P5.5 million between December 15, 2022, and January 15, 2023, significantly aiding supplementary feeding and livelihood initiatives implemented by the Hapag Movement.
Jeanette Beltran, SMAC’s head of sales and marketing, recognizes the program as a genuine testament to the benevolence and generosity displayed by SMAC members, as well as the collective support of SM brands and affiliates for this cause.
She emphasizes the surpassing of expectations in the sale of SMAC membership cards and purchases made with them, enabling members to extend assistance to those facing involuntary hunger.
This partnership enhances the shopping experience by contributing P50 to the Hapag Movement and other initiatives led by the SM Foundation Inc. with every purchase of the card.
In addition, when SMAC members shop for specific items from SM’s retail establishments like The SM Store, SM Beauty, SM Appliance, and affiliated brands such as Kultura, Surplus, Our Home, Baby Company, Crate and Barrel, Levi’s, The Body Shop, Forever21, Ecco, and Miniso, they earn up to 1,000 additional SMAC points.
Half of these points are then donated to the movement.
Beltran expresses profound appreciation to the members who made such significant contributions within a single month.
She expresses gratitude to customers for selecting SMAC as their means of shopping for a cause, which enables vulnerable families to receive proper meals and livelihood training.
According to the most recent survey conducted by Social Weather Stations, an estimated 2.7 million Filipino families experienced involuntary hunger in the first quarter of 2023.
Yoly Crisanto, the chief sustainability and corporate communications officer of Globe Group, conveys sincere gratitude to SMAC and the SM Group for their generous support of the Hapag Movement.
She highlights the substantial impact of this donation on the lives of individuals facing involuntary hunger, particularly as the movement strives to expand its outreach to assist more vulnerable kababayans.
SM collaborates with the Hapag Movement alongside implementing partners such as the Ayala Foundation Inc., Caritas Philippines, Tzu Chi Foundation, and World Vision. Together, they combat involuntary hunger and provide support to over 100,000 families.
