I’ve started to analyze the stock recommendations of stock brokerage firms and other stock market consultancy companies to see if my Evergreen Strategy will give a buy signal to any of their stock recommendations.
If you haven’t read my report on COL Financial’s COLing the Shots yet, don’t miss that train as we’re about to move to our next route – First Metro Securities’ Trader’s Playbook.
I want to reiterate that by talking about the stock recommendations of other people in my write-ups, I don’t imply that my strategy is better than theirs.
I am consciously aware that my strategy is different than others. It’s not surprising if my methodology will give an interpretation contrary to theirs.
At the end of the day, the clear winner is the one who has a system that is adaptive to the ever-changing market condition.
Speaking of results, here are my 2021 performance stats. I’m yet to publish my 1H2022 performance stats report.
Let’s talk about FirstMetroSec’s Trader’s Playbook.
What is First Metro Securities’ Trader’s Playbook?
The Trader’s Playbook is a stock screener. First Metro Securities screens the top 50 most actively traded stocks according to daily total turnover value. It’s purely based on fundamental analysis, just like COL Financial’s COLing the Shots.

Which of the 20 Trader’s Playbook stocks of First Metro Securities have a buy signal?
I know this is the part you’ve been waiting for.
I am going to check each of these 20 stocks according to these 6 criteria:
- The last price must be higher than the 10-day simple moving average.
- The last price must be higher than the volume-weighted average price.
- The last volume must be above 50% of the 10-day average.
- The moving average convergence divergence (MACD) must be higher than the signal line.
- The Dominant Range Index must be bullish.
- The Market Sentiment Index must be bullish.
You can check the first 4 criteria on your own because they’re classical technical indicators.
Only I can produce the last 2 indicators because those are my proprietary indicators.
What does the overall rating mean?
If the overall rating is bearish, it means the downtrend or the consolidation with a downtrend bias is likely to continue.
If the overall rating is bullish, it means the uptrend or the consolidation with an uptrend bias is likely to continue.

Only 2 out of 20 Trader’s Playbook stocks earned a bullish overall rating?
That’s correct.
Keep in mind that my Evergreen Strategy is not like a Read Only Memory that is non-volatile.
My methodology is volatile.
It means ratings change as trading happens.
If you’re one of my clients, you can ask for your stock’s latest Dominant Range Index and Market Sentiment Index in our Private Clients Forum so you’ll know if your stock has a bullish overall rating already.
As for the first 4 criteria, you can check those on your own.
Like I said, those are classical indicators.
Is Equilyst Analytics’ Evergreen Strategy better than First Metro Securities’ Trader’s Playbook’s methodology?
Methodically, we’re incomparable.
We don’t use the same methodology.
What are the differences between First Metro Securities’ Trader’s Playbook and Equilyst Analytics’ Stock Screener?
Aside from the obvious difference that First Metro Securities uses fundamental analysis while I use technical analysis, here are the top 3 differences between our stock screeners.
1. My screener has wider coverage than First Metro Securities’ Trader’s Playbook.
I screen all actively traded stocks on the Philippine Stock Exchange.
First Metro Securities only checks the top 50 most actively traded stocks according to daily total turnover value.
2. I use a trailing stop. First Metro Securities uses a target selling price.
I don’t use a predefined target selling price.
My trailing stop is my selling point.
“Shucks! I should not have sold yet. The freaking stock went up by 10% more! What a killjoy!”
How many times did you catch yourself saying that?
I wrote an article explaining why I don’t use a target selling price.
Read it if you wish to learn more.
3. First Metro Securities has a universal method of measuring their screener’s performance. Mine cannot have one.
First off, my selling price is my trailing stop.
My trailing stop is calculated according to the risk percentage I only want to apply in that trade.
That percentage of risk is dynamic. It varies from person to person, stock to stock, mood to mood.
First Metro Securities and other brokers can publish a universal performance report of their trade calls because they’re using a predefined target selling price.
I cannot do that because even if we follow the same Evergreen Strategy, we’ll surely have different results because we won’t have the same risk percentage for each stock for each trade.
That’s why my portfolio’s return doesn’t represent any or all of my clients’ portfolio performance.
If you have access to my service and if you have an account with First Metro Securities, I suggest you combine our methodology so you can make a decision based on the point of view of a fundamentalist and a technician.
