Senator Christopher Lawrence Go has expressed his positive views regarding the forthcoming Senate inquiry on the issue involving ABS-CBN Corporation.
He confirmed that he would take part in the hearing. Furthermore, Go remarked that the upcoming event at the Philippine Senate might be in the assistance of lawmaking.
The Senate Committee on public services will conduct its initial inquiry on the application for the renewal of the franchise of ABS-CBN Corporation.
Based on the news posted online by The Philippine Star, the Philippines’ English-language daily newspaper published in print and digital formats, the scheduled date for the event is on February 24.
Senator Grace Poe will facilitate the hearing as she heads the Senate Committee on public services.
Ralph Recto, who is the Senate President Pro Tempore, relayed that he tallies 17 to 19 senators voting to recommence the license to operate of the Filipino media and entertainment organization.
Go remarked that he views the slated hearing at the Philippine Senate as the correct convention to hear the views of both the Philippine government and ABS-CBN.
The Filipino politician remarked that they at the upper chamber of the Congress of the Philippines would listen to any person interested to talk or air their grievances.
Moreover, as a member of the Philippine Senate, Go said that he might raise some queries about the issue involving the media giant.
The former special assistant to President Rodrigo Duterte pointed out that any legislative measure about franchise bills must come from the House of Representatives.
Go remarked that this fact is according to the law of the country. Plus, he carried on explaining that the lower chamber of the Congress of the Philippines should deal with the franchise application immediately then.
This activity would involve the congressmen voting based on their ethics, the senator said.
Go cited that the longer that they extend the franchise application of the media behemoth, the more scorching the matter becomes. Hence, he urged his fellow lawmakers to discuss the issue themselves since it is the proper procedure.
He cited that the Senate will examine the matters and that Duterte will make a significant decision. The head of the country will approve the matter or exercise his power to veto issues, Go added.
The Office of the Solicitor General has requested the Supreme Court to cancel the legislative franchises of ABS-CBN Corporation and its subsidiary firm ABS-CBN Convergence Incorporated.
The government body alleged that the Philippine media giant had committed extremely abusive measures as a broadcasting network.
Meanwhile, ABS-CBN has so far denied that it has performed any criminality.
